In 2015 Pilot Thomas and Maxum Petroleum became operating partners. Maxum has over 60 years of operating history. It began as “General Petroleum” in 1946 and has supplied fuels and lubricants to marine, commercial, and industrial customers ever since. In addition to Pilot Thomas’s existing service locations, Maxum contributes locations across the entire west coast of the United States never outsourcing distribution.
Our mobile transfer units are setup specifically for marine deliveries. Our fuel and lubricant trucks are outfitted with high pressure transfer pumps capable of delivering up to 150 gallons per minute of fuel and `55 gallons per minute of lube oils at 80-PSI. Hoses are tested and certified for over the water pumping. Our average truck capacity is over 6,500 gallons, and many of our newer fleet vehicles feature a custom built boot added to the tractor to hold additional barrels and a crane to lift them out during product delivery.
Our fuel and lubricant barges are designed specifically for marine fuel and lubricant deliveries.

Maxum uniquely features a fully integrated and state-of-the-art blending facility to ensure peak quality. Our blend plant possesses a tank farm with 2.6 million gallons of storage capacity, manufacturing capabilities that include the blending and processing of raw materials into a fully built up finished product.
Pilot Thomas Logistics operates at a state-of-the-art blend plant and repackaging facility featuring a quality control laboratory to monitor and control quality. Quality assurance certificates are provided for every blend.
Pilot Thomas believes in versatility and convenience when performing lubricant delivery. As such, we’ve diversified our fleet to offer delivery by barge and/or truck. Additionally, we offer dock service at several locations.
Whether it’s storing or blending of 3rd party brand lubricants, Maxum has both the technical/mechanical capabilities, as well as, the logistical capabilities. We blend and manufacture many of the brands used in engine rooms all over the world.
At Pilot Thomas, storage and output is never a problem. We currently blend over 12 million gallons of lubricant annually. Between the several facilities spanning the West Coast, we can store over 3.4 million gallons of product at a time.
Roughly equivalent to No. 2 fuel oil, made from distillate only. Designed for use in all diesel-fueled engines in mobile, portable, and stationary applications. It has maximum sulfur content of 100 ppm (parts per million). MGO is in compliance with ISO 8217: 2010 specifications and also conforms to regulations 14 and 18 of Annex VI of Marpol 73/78.
Known as the “originator of midstream fueling”, Economy Boat maintains a series of locations along the Mississippi River and the U.S. Gulf Coast. Midstream Fueling is the method for refueling tows while in motion or stationary on the River. Dockside marine fueling is also available to customers. In 2015, Pilot Thomas Logistics acquired a 70% controlling interest in Economy Boat Store and Radcliff / Economy Marine Services, with the Barton Family and Greer Radcliff owning the remaining interest.
